Meigs Field: "Parks and Planes"

I was appalled when Mayor Daley illegally closed Meigs Field on the night of March 30, 2003. It was a sneaky underhanded act that drew outrage from all over the country.

Sadly, Ald. Pat Levar (45th), the head of the Aviation Commission fell in line and supported the Mayor 100%.

Although I am not a pilot, nor have I ever landed at Meigs, I always enjoyed watching the planes take-off and land.

In 1998 when the "Friends of Meigs Field" had their "open house", my entire family and I visited, and one of their members was kind enough to take this photo. This photo was scanned right out of our family photo album!

I wonder how many corporate board meetings will never take place, or how many businesses decided not to make their base here in Chicago not only because Meigs is gone, but in the manner in which it was closed. What business would want to have to rely on that type of government?

Every tax dollar that business doesn't contribute to the City budget, Is one that a home-owner will have to pay.

Friends of Meigs have put together a plan that combines a park and an airport, in their "Parks and Planes Plan" you can view by clicking on: http://www.meigsaction.net/. I hope you are as excited about it as I am.

You can bet that as alderman I will introduce an ordinance to re-open this world-famous airport and restore our civic pride. This is not just a cheap campaign promise, but something that comes from my heart.

P.S. My Campaign Manager, Jeff Holewinski is a pilot!

Sincerely,

Bob Bank, candidate for Alderman of the 45th ward
